Why this move matters

A card is the one place where spending and paying happen at different times, and that gap is where people spend the same dollar twice: once on the thing, again on the bill. Vondo keeps the two ends tied together, so the money you already assigned is standing by for the statement instead of disappearing.

Do it in Vondo

1. Spend on the card from a funded category. Record it with New Transaction, on the Transactions screen or the card’s own page, as an ordinary Expense on the card account. That category’s Available falls, and the card’s payment category rises by the same amount. Nothing left your budget, it changed jobs, from "for groceries" to "for the card bill".

The Vondo budget after a credit-card grocery purchase: the Groceries category’s Available has fallen and the Credit Card Payment category’s Available has risen by the same amount, so the money moved rather than left.

2. Pay the card with a Transfer from your checking account, not an expense. Now the money actually leaves, and the payment category falls to match. Recording the payment as an expense would count it twice, which is the mistake this whole design prevents.

The Vondo budget after paying the card with a transfer from checking: the Credit Card Payment category’s Available is drawn down to zero and the card balance is cleared.

What you should see now

The card’s payment category holds exactly what your budgeted card spending added up to, and paying the bill draws it back down to zero. The card is not a mystery balance, it is money you already set aside.

The balance you started with

An opening balance is debt from before Vondo was watching, so it never fills the payment category on its own. If you began owing money on a card and you want it gone, assign to the payment category yourself, the same way you funded any other category in Organize. Vondo will not pretend money appeared to cover a debt you have not funded.

When a card purchase overspends

Only the part you had already assigned moves across to the payment category. The rest is an ordinary overspend sitting in the spending category, and you fix it the Direct way, by moving money in. Cover the category and the coverage follows across to the card.

Back to the loop. Splitting a card purchase across categories works the same way, each split moves its share to the payment category, see Splitting a transaction.

Why this is not in Notice

Notice teaches one direction: you spend, Available falls. A card adds a second, two-sided idea, spending now creates a bill to fund later, and for anyone who started with a balance it raises the opening-balance question at the worst possible moment. Notice keeps its transactions on the checking account for exactly that reason.
